I know its a little last second but hey better late than never right? For those of you wondering why we haven’t posted much on this site as of late, its because the Foti Sports crew is hard at work on its latest venture which can be seen by visiting DailyFantasySports.org. For those of you that may be unaware of what exactly daily fantasy sports are allow me to explain it to you.

For starters you pick a new team every week (for football) or every day if you’re playing hockey, basketball, baseball etc. To pick that team you’re giving a budget which for daily fantasy football is $60,000. Then you have to select a team of players, all of whom have differing salaries, to fit under the budget and then play that team against your opponents for cold hard cash (or for free if you’d like). Football fanatics the wait is finally over. You’ve struggled to deal with an off season filled with drama, lockouts, and a free agent bonanza leaving some including myself saying “When did they get him?” Tonight, although just a slight tease, marks the beginning of what is already shaping out to be an NFL season filled with excitement, controversy, storylines, dream teams, and of course more discussion on illegal hits and head injuries. I do not consider myself to be the world’s greatest football enthusiast, nor do I think of myself as a football guru, yet just your average ordinary played the game in high school fan. Just like most of you I do the whole fantasy football thing with a slight dabble every now and then in the sports betting arena. Over time however sports betting (only in Vegas of course) has not panned out exactly the way I’ve hoped it would. Ok let’s be honest here I may be one of the worst of all time and right now most of you are asking yourselves; “Why the hell would I want to keep reading?” In the words of Daniel Tosh, “Valid point”, however if you know who I’m picking each week, that may entice some of you who are involved in pick-em leagues, or for those of you who live in Vegas, to bet the opposite. Each week I plan to give you my predictions on at least 3 games, my lock of the week, and my bet-um straight up underdog. Without further ado … Week #1 here we go.

Game 1
Detroit vs. Tampa Bay (-2)
I know everyone wants to jump on the Matthew Stafford bandwagon, but can you tell me the last time the Lions did anything right? Too much hype in the pre-season for a below average team. I’m taking Tampa Bay at home -2.

Game 2
Tennessee vs. Jacksonville (-2)
Two words..Luke McCown. Tennessee takes the points and runs with them, I’ll take Tennessee +2.

Game 3
Oakland vs. Denver (-3)
No Tim Tebow ? No problem for the Denver Broncos as the cruise to a Week 1 win over NCAA division 1 Oakland Raiders. I’ll take Denver -3 at home.

Lock of the Week
N.Y. Giants vs. Washington (+3)
Could not ask for a better Week 1 game if you’re a Giants fan. Yes there on the road, but playing against a team that was considering Rex Grossman as QB1? Eli don’t get me wrong you’re no Tom Brady, but you can certainly cover 3 points on the road against the Skins.

Underdog
Buffalo vs. Kansas City (-6)
Quarterback problems in Kansas City right now, and I think the Bills get off to a 1-0 start on the road for the first time since Jim Kelly was at the helm.

With the football regular season kicking off tomorrow, an avid fan such as myself cannot help but look ahead both to the playoffs and to the superbowl that awaits in just a few short weeks. As an avid Buffalo Bills fan, I was forced to stop cheering almost immediately as my team never really got out of the gate. AFC east rivals the Patriots however came out swinging and really never looked back. That being said I am thinking that the New England Patriots will meet up with the Green Bay Packers in this years superbowl. Aaron Rodgers really can fling em, and that defense is one to envy for sure.

I can’t wait to see how this season plays out – there’s such a wealth of great teams out there that it’s always hard to tell who’s going to rise to power quickly, who’ll be the dark horse team, and who’ll play so well that even the NFL Party Poker players will look up from their laptops and drop their popcorn! There’s never been a better time to have an eye on the football scene, and this season’s shaping up to be somewhat epic.

Regardless of who you pick it should be a great set of playoff and championship games this year, ultimately culminating (in my opinion) with the Patriots (much to my dismay) hoisting the Lombardi trophy.

After reading about Vince Young’s recent outburst at a strip club in Dallas early Sunday morning im sitting in my room a bit baffled by it all. At first I thought about what I wouldve done in that particular situation, and realized that I may have acted similarly but theirs a big difference between me and Vince Young.  I wont belittle you and explain the differences between me and Mr. Young because I think they are rather self explanatory. Then I thought to myself, what would I have done if I were Vince Young, and had millions of dollars and got to play football for a few hours on a Sunday and get paid millions, and the two answers are very different.

According to the report on ESPN, young assaulted a man around 3:30 in the Am at a strip club. Now maybe im just a bit naive and give athletes to much credit, but as an NFL superstar what on earth are you doing at a strip club. I mean I realize you can blow money on girls at a strip club and not care, but whats the point? Lets not even mention guys like Pacman Jones or Ben Roethlisberger and what Young couldve learned from those two rejects, the fact of the matter is that your set for life and Id say that most girls would sleep with you for free. The solution then becomes, why dont we go to a club or a bar, ball it up and get laid for free? I suppose its tough for me to understand what really goes on with these guys because its not a position ill ever be put into but the solution to this ongoing problem seems pretty simple.

At the end of the day its hard to tell a young 20 something with a few million in the bank what to do, but for christs sake surround yourself with good people. At some point in your life you have to cut ties with those who are bringing you down and enabling you to make bad decisions. How much of a role model can you really be, when this is how you portray yourself? As for the players who say “I’m no ones role model” just remember that unless your a 3rd string long snapper, someone somewhere wears your jersey, and watches your clips on youtube, and ultimately look up to you. You might think that your affecting no one but yourself with your decisions but the fact of the matter is that you are out there for the world to see, and you need to make better choices.

Writing posts like this is always easier from the outside looking in, but I just know that if I had millions the last place I would go on a Sunday is a strip club.

How do you guys feel about these high profile athletes in the news? Guys like Arenas, Burress, Roethlisberger, Jones, and now Young?

Tim Tebow has dominated college football both on and off the field like no other player in recent memory. Tebow was the recipient of the 2007 Heisman trophy, and collected two national championships during his tenure at the University of Florida. Those accomplishments are far greater than any award or championship I’ve ever dreamed of winning, but for some reason has yet to influence my opinion of Tim Tebow as a player. I consider Tebow one of the greatest leaders and human beings college football has ever seen, but as a player, I have never been sold on his talent.
Before you call me crazy or just another Tebow hater, give me a chance to elaborate. Tebow was good, but to consider him one of the greatest “players” of all time, I have a difficult time coping with that. To me Tebow’s success on the field was a direct correlation with the system he was in, surrounded by some of the best athletes in college football. His system at Florida, the players around him, and one halftime speech have given some Tebow fans a false indication of his talent. My thoughts were confirmed last week at the Senior Bowl as Tebow struggled with the simplicity of taking a hand off under center. It was also noted that many passes were wobbly, and that it was difficult for Tebow to through tight accurate passes. All three things he struggled with last week are key to a successful career in the NFL, at least at the quarterback position. Do I think Tebow will have a semi successful career in the NFL? Yes, but not quarterbacking any of the current 32 NFL franchises.
Tebow was great for the game, and had an extremely successful career in college football. That success however will not correlate to continued success at the next level. Great leader, great motivator, great teammate; no doubt about it! My argument has and always will be about Tim Tebow’s talent as a football player. Good player for sure, but the system at Florida along with his teammates have given Tebow supporters a false sense of greatness. For four years Tim Tebow has taken over the landscape of college football, being considered by many as the greatest player in college football history. I support what Tebow has done on and off the field during his career at Florida, but sympathize with the long journey he has ahead of him. He may shock all those who criticize his game including myself next season, however until he proves me wrong Tim Tebow will be nothing more than a “good” football player.
